Dogs

We have so many dogs looking for forever homes. Dogs available for adoption change every day as new ones arrive and others are adopted. We try to keep this list as current as possible but cannot guarantee that the dog you are looking for will still be available when you come to meet them. If you want to know if a particular dog is still available it is best to visit us in person. We do our best to return phone calls and emails but it isn't always possible to do that as quickly as we would like to. We offer a 24 hour hold that requires a completed approved application and a $25 non-refundable hold fee. The $25 will be deducted from your adoption fee if you decide to adopt. Hold fees are not transferable.

KHS Playgroup Program

We are really proud to offer a Playgroup Program to our shelter canines. In 2017, we were trained by an amazing nonprofit organization called Dogs Playing for Life and since then our shelter canine’s lives have dramatically changed. There are many benefits of offering this program to our canines here at our shelter such as:
- The burning off of their energy which counteracts the stresses of shelter life
- Exercise for the dogs, resulting in more relaxed and better behaved dogs in their kennels and when meeting potential adopters
- The dogs learn critical dog-to-dog social skills
- They learn skills in the playgroups that will help the dogs in their post-adoption life
At the Kokomo Humane Society, we seek to help as many animals as possible find their forever homes. The more we socialize, train and teach our shelter animals the more likely they are to get adopted and not return to us. We have countless positive and successful examples as a result of this program and we are beyond happy to see so many animals finding their forever homes!
